Quality is the consistent measurement and accountability of medical care ensuring the safety, health and well-being of our patients. Hospitals vary in the quality of care they provide. A quality measure is one way to see how well a hospital is caring for its patients. This report card has quality measures on how often Barton Memorial Hospital can provide recommended care known to get the best results for: Pneumonia, Heart Attack, Heart Failure and Surgery.
The measures are based on scientific evidence about treatments that are known to get the best results. Health care experts and researchers are constantly evaluating the evidence to make sure that guidelines and measures continue to reflect the most up-to-date information. Sometimes, guidelines and measures are modified to reflect new evidence.
This report card shows measures that are based on data from our hospitals’ patient records. The data is converted to rates that measure how well Barton cares for their patients. Percentages may be affected by such factors as how many patients are included in the calculation.
There also are specific reasons you should not get a certain treatment. For instance, a recommended treatment to help prevent a heart attack is to take aspirin daily. However, you should not take aspirin if you are allergic to aspirin. Patients who should not get the recommended care are not counted in the measures.
Barton has been a voluntary participant since the inception of the California Hospital Assessment Reporting Task Force (CHART) and its accompanying California Hospital Compare Public Report Card. We have been working very hard to improve our performance and pledge to give you the most current results. You will see data on our site which may differ greatly from the data at www.calhospitalcompare.org, which can be up to 18 months old.
